A Minimalist approach to bringing light to our lives.

clipped from idealist.blinkr.net

8AM is a task lamp constructed simply of braided electric wire.
The flexible
wire, once passed thru an aluminum clamp, undergoes a “change of state,”
elegantly transforming into the structural body of the lamp itself. Following
the simple construction method, the 8AM task lamp is also powered on/off in an
elegant manner.
By touching the aluminum clamp, the user is able to trigger
the ever-increasing levels of light output. This simple system consisting of a
wire and a clamp, can take on various forms to fill the home, office, or lobby
with a pleasant wash of light.

Released as a concept at Salone del Mobile 2007, 8AM has received much
attention and garnered rave reviews from the public and professional lighting
industry.

Dual Functional Divider

Dual Use Divider

Multi-usage piece of furniture that anyone can use as a screen in the middle of
a room to separate places, and at the same time it could be used as space for
storage if you turn some of the individual shelves. If you don’t want it to be
in the middle of the room you can just push it to the side and close it in order
to work as a decorating piece or with some open shelves as storage.

Magnetic Levitating Bed

-Magnetic Levitating Bed

This amazing bed is held up 40cm by a permanent magnetic force due to elements in the floor as well as in the object. Thin steel cables assure it's position and the smart use of steel plates and air make the object userfriendly by strongly decreasing the magnetic force where it's not neccesary. Different possible uses such as a bed, sofa, Japanese dining table, display for objects or as a base for a floating pavilion can be used of since the bed can carry a load of 900kg.-source

Floating Furnitures

Hmmm, where did all the space go in the living room? I thought I have a big living room. Have this thought cross your mind when you look at your furnished living room?

Well, furniture can take a lot of space, especially furnitures with big footprint. My solution: Floating Furnitures (FF).

FF not only makes the room look bigger but they can make it look more stylish as well. Watch some examples in the slide show.

Small footprint furniture (FF) is going to be a future trend.

If you come across some FF, feel free to send me the link.

Colloid / Gel

One of the medium of choice now and in the near future is colloid or Gel. Why Gel?
One of its properties is elasticity. As we can see in a jelly dessert.
Another important property of gel is it's relation to heat. But there will be more discoveries on why colloid or gel is a better medium. And therefore more application using gel.

Some Properties of Gel:

1. Elasticity, if the surface of a gel is displaced slightly, it springs back to its original position.

2. Many gels and colloids are thixotropic materials, exhibiting a stable form at rest but becoming fluid when agitated.

3.By replacing the liquid with gas it is possible to prepare aerogels, materials with exceptional properties including very low density, high specific surface areas, and excellent thermal insulation properties.

4. Controlled release of drugs.

5. Can be mixed with compounds to create hybrid, thus even more useful applications.

Do you agree that gel will be a medium of choice? Add to the property list.

Gel Battery

A gel battery is a rechargeable valve regulated lead-acid battery with a gelified electrolyte. Unlike a traditional
wet-cell lead-acid battery, these batteries do not need to be kept upright
(though they cannot be charged inverted). In addition, gel batteries virtually
eliminate the electrolyte evaporation, spillage (and subsequent corrosion issues) common to the wet-cell
battery, and boast greater resistance to extreme temperatures, shock, and
vibration. As a result, they are primarily used in automobiles, boats, aircraft,
and other motorized vehicles.

Square Containers

There will be more square containers, especially food containers. Square packaging containers can store more and save storage space. Lack of space is the final frontier.
